Untitled/Unjuried Update: The Numbers

The entry deadline for Untitled/Unjuried: Small Format Tapestry 2014 was January 31. It took me a few weeks to get an accurate count, because we had some duplicate online entries, and had to add in the paper entries as well.

Since it was a "postmark" deadline, we expected to receive a few entries in the following week, but I was surprised when one arrived on February 19th! It was from Brazil.

The final count is (drumroll!)   241 entries from:

13 countries - Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Morocco, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, UK, and USA

6 continents - Australia, South America, North America, Europe, Asia, Africa

33 US states - Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.

4 Canadian Provinces - Alberta, British Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan.

The deadline for the actual tapestries to arrive is March 31. There are only 16 more days, and I still expect about 220 tapestries!  I'd better start getting 13 or more every day, or the last few days will be CRAZY! I have already warned my mail carrier.

One tapestry that will not have to go through the mail is my own. It is inspired by a photograph I took from my husband's tiny airplane, over Block Island. I am working diligently to finish it. (this is a detail)

What fun, to get actual tapestries in the mail! I have always just received images and paperwork, but that was exciting enough. I plan to send mine your way this week.

Congratulations, Jan! Lots of work to be done with all of this show -- you've really only scratched the surface, as you know. But it's such an important exhibit concept and wonderful that it's in such a state of vitality all these years after it began!

I agree. I think the original It's about time! had either 97 or 103. I need to pull out my catalogues and count just for the fun of it.
definitely kudos and applause for the job your doing! It's nice to know the concept is still vital and thriving after all these years!

Thanks Jan! And holy guacamole! 16 days! I had better get on it. I actually wove this little tapestry years ago but never finished it (and it is nothing like my other work--you won't recognize it as mine I suspect... though could be wrong). So I have to do all the finishing and get it ready for mounting. Today!
